Workflow – Business Process Management (BPM) – A workflow business process is initially designed by creating a Petri Net diagram. From the diagram a workflow is generated in Archive Studio’s WebSearch application.

When a new triggering event takes place, such as the arrival of a new document requiring attention or possibly a knowledge worker simply wants to begin a series of staff responsibilities, that is referred to as the start of a “Workflow Case”.

The workflow case contains a series of workflow activities. Some activities require a staff members attention and some activities are automatically acted upon by the workflow decision engine. For example, if a purchase order is over $1,000.00 then the decision engine will automatically generate a workflow activity for management approval and not an accounting clerk. Another example; if an activity resides with a staff member longer that the allotted days of processing then management receives an email of this delay and the activity is escalated to another worker or supervisor.

Automating an organizations business process is a method of standardizing performance, insuring follow through, streamlining the workforce and producing repeatable positive results.
